Indonesian Tourism Destination with Direct Flights from Jakarta

Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and is one of the busiest cities in Indonesia. Starting from the variety of jobs, entertainment, and education all gather here. Of course, people in Jakarta sometimes need a break from their busy schedule, one of them is traveling. In this list, we provide some cool Indonesian tourism destinations and you can directly access from Jakarta via flights. Let’s go!

Lombok (Gili Trawangan)

Lombok Island is separated by the Lombok strait from Bali Island in the west and by Alas strait in the east from Sumbawa Island. The Sasak people are the dominant ethnic group living on this island, which also consists of 5 regions: North Lombok, Central Lombok, East Lombok, West Lombok, and Mataram city, the capital of West Nusa Tenggara. North Lombok is where you can embark on the great hike to Mount Rinjani and linger until the sunset at Gili’s beautiful beaches. Mount Rinjani is one of the highest volcanoes in Indonesia, with its summit rising to 3,726 meters above sea level. The Segara Anak Crater Lake located on top of the volcano is one of the scenic views you should stop by and marvel at! 

You can also explore the waters, as it’s called ‘Gili’. Among more than 20 gilis – a local name that means ”small island” in Sasak language – three stood out to be the hot spot destination: Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air. Gili Trawangan or Gili T is where travelers flock to enjoy a laid back atmosphere during the daylight and still are up to enjoy moonlit parties all night by the beach. 

You can also enjoy a great scuba dive and circle the island on a bicycle to catch the most incredible sunset! Gili Meno is defined by a long stretch of pearly white beaches that will give you a secluded feel. Famous for honeymooners’ destinations, the island provides accommodation ranging from unique bungalows to luxurious resorts overlooking an amazing panorama. 

There are daily flights between Denpasar, Bali, and the capital of Lombok, Mataram. Lombok International Airport (LOP) in Tanah Awu, Central Lombok District has located about 30 km or an hour drive southeast of Mataram. Airlines that fly to Lombok are Garuda, Lion Air, Silk Air, and Trans Nusa. 

Gorontalo (Pulo Cinta)

Today, lovebirds from around the globe can experience the ultimate romantic getaway at Pulo Cinta Eco Resort, a lovely resort built on the island that takes the shape of a heart. Opened in late 2015, the resort consists of 15 luxurious wooden villas built on stilts over the crystal clear shallow waters, surrounding the central sandbank. Connecting these villas (as well as the main dock) is a wooden “love” bridge. Waking up to the majestic sunrise and the gentle sound of calm waves, the enchanting panorama is a magical sensation rarely found elsewhere. 

A perfect place to celebrate love, Pulo Cinta is located among the 23 inhabited islands at Tomini Bay, a hidden gem in North Sulawesi. Here, you can enjoy your time on the warm white sand beach or explore the magical underwater wonder, which is a part of the world’s precious Coral Triangle. Pulo Cinta is surrounded by amazing dive sites in pristine conditions. Among the many sites, Salvador City Dive Sites boasts various types of uniquely-shaped Salvador Dali corals. Amidst the serenity, you can gaze upon millions of stars painting the night sky and immerse yourself in the wonders of the universe.

There are over 30 daily flights available from Jakarta to Jalaluddin Airport in Gorontalo. Alternatively, international flights are also available to Manado, the capital city of North Sulawesi Province. From there you can take connecting flights to Gorontalo. There are exclusive airport pickups provided by Pulo Cinta Eco Resort that will take you from the airport through Boalemo Regency in a 2-hour ride before departing via boat to the resort at Boalemo Harbor. 

West Papua (Raja Ampat)

Situated off the northwest tip of Bird’s Head Peninsula on Papua, the most eastern island of the Indonesian Archipelago, Raja Ampat or meaning ‘The Four Kings’ is an archipelago comprising over 1,500 small islands, cays, and shoals surrounding the four main islands of Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati, and Misool. The name Raja Ampat itself is believed to derive from a legend where a woman found seven eggs, with four of them hatch and become the kings of the four main islands, while the other three became a woman, a ghost, and a stone. 

For underwater enthusiasts, Raja Ampat offers some of the world’s ultimate experience. The territory within the islands of the Four Kings is enormous, covering 9.8 million acres of land and sea, home to 540 types of corals, more than 1,000 types of coral fish, and 700 types of mollusks. This makes it the most diverse living library for the world’s coral reef and underwater biota. 

To get to Raja Ampat you should first take a flight from Jakarta or Makassar to Sorong. There are small aircraft to take you to Waisai, the capital of the district of Raja Ampat, or you can take a ferry from the port of Sorong to the islands. Established in 2012, the Marinda Airport in Waisai, the capital town of Raja Ampat Regency served flights to and from the city of Sorong. Wings Air served daily flights between Sorong and Raja Ampat, while Susi Air flew twice a week on Monday and Saturday. Please be advised that Marinda Airport is still under development and expansion and located relatively far from any facilities. 

So be sure to pack some snacks and drinks as you await your return flights to Sorong. Alternatively, there are ferries available to get you from Sorong and Waisai and vice versa. The ferry trip will take about 2 to three hours.
