A Guide to Jakarta’s Weather: Seasons and Clothing
Moving to Jakarta means saying yes to warm weather all year long! Being the capital city of Indonesia, this metropolitan city has warm weather throughout the year. The annual average temperatures ranging from 25°C – 38°C.
Located right in the equator, Indonesia, especially Jakarta, is defined as a tropical monsoon climate with 2 seasons: the wet and dry seasons. Sure is the best time to visit this city in the dry seasons. But if you tend to live here, you need to adapt to both of the seasons.
Dry Season: April – October
During this season, rain rarely approaches Jakarta. The sun is shining all day long and the air can be very humid. The highest temperature falls in August, which can reach 40°C. In these months, the best time for those of you who want to visit Jakarta. Because in addition to being able to enjoy the city for a full day, you will also avoid the floods that usually hit Jakarta during the rainy season.
However, because of this extremely hot temperature, all Jakarta residents will change their style of clothing to be lighter, and you also have to follow it, in order to survive in the midst of the hot temperatures of the Indonesian capital. Don’t forget to bring your water bottle because surely you’ll need to stay hydrated during the dry season in Jakarta.

What to wear: T-shirts, lightweight pants, dresses, and sandals
Don’t forget: Sunnies, hats, sunscreens, umbrellas (for the sun), and small towels (for wipe your sweats off).
Wet Season: September – March
In the rainy season, as the name suggests, Jakarta will often be washed down by heavy rain. The month where the highest rainfall intensity falls in January – February. At that time, Jakarta is often hit by floods. For those of you who want to visit Jakarta, avoid coming during this rainy season, unless you want to stay indoors most of the time.
In this season, all Jakarta residents begin to change their lifestyles; starting from the way they dress and how to commute. In these months, the streets of Jakarta will be increasingly jammed because many people are turning to use their private cars or using taxis. For those who still use public transportation, they will bring additional items such as raincoats, umbrellas, sandals, change clothes, and so on.
