Petojo Selatan is situated in Central Jakarta, allowing for connectivity to other parts of the city. Main roads and smaller streets, such as Jalan Petojo Selatan I and Jalan Petojo Selatan VII, traverse the area. There have been discussions regarding the need for pedestrian bridges (JPO) in the vicinity, particularly connecting to Petojo Utara across Jalan Suryopranoto and near Tarakan Hospital and Jalan Veteran Raya, to improve walkability and pedestrian safety.

The subdistrict is home to a Puskesmas (community health center) and several early childhood education facilities (PAUD). The area also has Bina Keluarga Balita (BKB), Bina Keluarga Remaja (BKR), and Bina Keluarga Lansia (BKL) programs, which are integrated with Posyandu (community health posts). Additionally, Petojo Selatan features RPTRA (Child-Friendly Public Spaces) such as RPTRA Tanah Abang 3, which hosts various community activities.

Petojo Selatan functions as a vital residential component within Central Jakarta. Its infrastructure and community programs contribute to the urban fabric by providing essential services and fostering local community development. The subdistrict's characteristics, including its population density and mix of residential environments, ranging from elite to more densely populated areas, reflect the diverse urban landscape of Jakarta.
